When periods suddenly stop though you have been menstruating regularly, then this condition is known as secondary amenorrhea. Pregnancy is one of the most common reasons for it. But some other causes of missed periods are stopping the use of birth control pills, hormonal imbalances, breastfeeding, extreme weight loss, stress and excessive exercises.

When woman experiences long gaps between her periods like more than 6 months gap is called as oligomenrorrhea and should be certainly consulted with doctor immediately.

Heavy periods (menorrhagia):

Medically the condition of heavy bleeding in women is known as menorrhagia. This condition occurs due to factors like uterine growths, hormonal imbalance and endometriosis. The severe nature of this ailment can make woman anemic, therefore immediate doctor’s help should be taken to deal with it.

Unusual vaginal bleeding:

Unusual vaginal bleeding after sex, between periods or after menopause is a part of serious problems which requires immediate medical attention.

Painful periods (dysmenorrhea):

It is a serious menstrual condition which causes severe menstrual cramps and pain associated with period. The various symptoms of this painful condition are vomiting, pain in lower abdomen, cramping in lower abdomen, diarrhea, weakness, lower back pain, fatigue, fainting, nausea and headache etc.
